The London Market Awards honour the industry’s leading underwriting companies, broking firms and service providers for their achievements in the past calendar year. Additionally, we also recognise prominent industry figures for their accomplishments in the London re/insurance market over the same time period.
An independent judging panel carefully evaluated this year’s award nominations and will soon select the winner in each category. The victors will be announced during the ceremony on 19 August.

COMPANY AWARDS
Risk Modeller of the Year
This award recognises the work of a risk modelling firm that excelled in calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including client service levels, precision/accuracy of the models developed, and/or successful deployment of innovation in the science of risk modelling. Demonstrable evidence of a modeller’s response to a major event and its subsequent service to clients will be looked for, with a focus on where the risk modeller has gone above and beyond typical expectations to distinguish itself in this field.
Financial Advisory Firm of the Year
This award recognises the work of a financial advisory firm that excelled in calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including client service levels (including targets reached), expertise in serving the needs of insurance and reinsurance companies, and growing and improving its standing in the insurance industry. Demonstrable evidence of a how a firm has aided a re/insurance company in achieving an enviable result will be looked upon favourably.
Legal Firm of the Year
This award recognises the work of a legal firm that excelled in serving/representing an insurer or reinsurer in calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including client service levels, re/insurance expertise, and how it has grown and improved its standing in the re/insurance industry.
InsurTech of the Year
This award recognises the work of an InsurTech that excelled in calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including financial performance, business growth, and how the firm has created a solution of demonstrable value to the re/insurance industry. Both independent InsurTechs and those developed in incubators by established re/insurance companies will be considered.
Re/Insurance Company Innovator of the Year
This award recognises groundbreaking achievements by an established re/insurance company during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate innovation through a new initiative, product or solution that drives business. Demonstrable evidence of how this innovation was conceived, developed and implemented to the organization’s advantage will be looked on favourably.
Insurance Asset Management Firm of the Year
This award recognises the work of an insurance asset management firm that performed especially well during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including client-service levels, investment performance, and how it has grown and improved its standing in the re/insurance industry. Demonstrable evidence of a how a firm has significantly improved a client’s investment performance will be looked upon favourably.
ILS Fund Manager of the Year
This award recognises the work of an ILS fund manager that excelled during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including client-service levels, client investment returns, and business growth. .
Run-off Company of the Year
This award recognises the achievements of a run-off company that excelled during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including in its management of the run-off portfolio, financial performance, and overall client service. Demonstrable evidence of how the run-off company managed the process of generating strong returns will be viewed favourably.
Global Achievement of a London Market Insurer or Reinsurer
This award recognises a significant achievement by a London market re/insurer globally during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including overseas financial performance, global growth, or success in an emerging region. Demonstrable evidence of a company’s expansion into or growth within a challenging region – while maintaining strong performance – will be looked upon favourably.
Diversity & Inclusion Award
This award recognises the work of a company that excelled in promoting diversity and inclusion during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this in a number of ways, including a firm’s marked improvement in D&I levels, consistent support for D&I initiatives, and a company’s industry-wide commitment to promoting diversity. Demonstrable evidence of how a company has included a variety of abilities, skills, experiences and cultural backgrounds in all stakeholders – as well as leveraging those differences to achieve superior results – in the London market will be looked upon favourably.
Coverage Innovation of the Year
This award recognises the work of an insurer or reinsurer that created a new, especially effective coverage solution during calendar year 2019. Demonstrable evidence of how this innovation was conceived, developed and implemented to the company’s business advantage will be looked on favourably.
Excellence in Claims Service Award
This award recognises an insurer or reinsurer that exhibited stellar performance in handling claims during calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including speed of claims response, consistent efficiency, and general service levels. Demonstrable evidence of a how a firm handled a particularly challenging series of claims will be looked on favourably, as will evidence of innovations that aided in the process.
Insurance Broker of the Year
This award recognises the most successful and highly regarded insurance brokerage during calendar year 2019. Companies must demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including financial results, client-retention levels, and business growth. Demonstrable evidence of overall company success in multiple aspects of business performance will be looked upon favourably.
Reinsurance Broker of the Year
This award recognises the most successful and highly regarded reinsurance broker during calendar year 2019. Companies must demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including financial results, client-retention levels, and business growth. Demonstrable evidence of overall company success in multiple aspects of business performance will be looked upon favourably.
Insurer of the Year
This award recognises the most successful and highly regarded primary-side insurer during calendar year 2019. Entrants must demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including underwriting results, improved financial performance, business growth, combined ratio and other factors. Demonstrable evidence of overall company success in multiple aspects of business performance will be looked upon favourably.

InsurTech Incubator of the Year
Entrants will demonstrate excellence in calendar year 2019 in a number of ways, including level of InsurTech project support and the effectiveness of the solutions yielded. Evidence of actions the incubator has itself taken to improve InsurTech performance will be looked on favourably, particularly where the incubator has gone above and beyond expectations. Please include in the essay section thorough details on the incubator, the InsurTechs developed, and the value they deliver.
Marketing/PR Team of the Year
This award recognises the work of a single marketing/PR team that excelled in calendar year 2019. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including how they have improved or enhanced the company’s overall reputation, increased brand awareness or led a successful marketing campaign, with clear examples of how the team has driven this success.
London Market Deal of the Year
This award recognises the most impactful London market deal completed during calendar year 2019. This transaction will have exhibited ambition and a clear vision for future excellence. Evidence of how the deal enhanced company strategy on either side and generate future business will be looked upon favourably.
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
Up-and-Coming Broker of the Year
To be awarded to an individual broker who has been working in the re/insurance industry for less than seven years who has displayed exceptional ability as well as the potential for further excellence in years to come. Performance will be exhibited in client service, re/insurance broking expertise, and commitment to the organization.
Up-and-Coming Underwriter of the Year
To be awarded to an individual underwriter who has been working in the re/insurance industry for less than seven years who has displayed exceptional ability as well as the potential for further excellence in years to come. Performance must be exhibited in consistently solid underwriting and commitment to an insurer or reinsurer.
Diversity & Inclusion Champion of the Year
To be awarded to an individual who has led efforts to cultivate a more diverse and inclusive organization in calendar year 2019. This person will have shown evidence of challenging either their own company or the London market as a whole to possess a more diverse workforce and has gone above and beyond in spearheading such efforts. Evidence of how the individual has passionately supported such an initiative and helped deliver measurable progress will be looked upon favourably.
Innovator of the Year
To be awarded to an individual who has led the way in introducing new, valuable concepts or products to either a company or to the industry as a whole in calendar year 2019. This person will have disrupted an established industry practice in a positive way and/or created a new business solution, and has driven improved performance at their organization as a result.
Insurance Broking CEO of the Year
To be awarded to an insurance brokerage CEO who inspired excellence across their company in calendar year 2019. This individual will have exhibited strong leadership skills and decision-making that has been at the heart of the brokerage’s improved performance. The company’s financial results, client-retention levels, and business growth will all be considered.
Reinsurance Broking CEO of the Year
To be awarded to a reinsurance broking CEO who inspired excellence across their company in calendar year 2019. This individual will have exhibited strong leadership skills and decision-making that has been at the heart of the brokerage’s improved performance. The company’s financial results, client-retention levels, and business growth will all be considered.
Insurance CEO of the Year
To be awarded to a CEO who led a successful and highly regarded primary-side insurer during calendar year 2019. This individual will exhibit strong leadership skills and decision-making that has inspired, among other things, positive underwriting results, improved financial performance, business growth and a competitive combined ratio.
Reinsurance CEO of the Year
To be awarded to a CEO who led a successful and highly regarded reinsurer during calendar year 2019. This individual exhibits strong leadership skills and decision-making that has inspired, among other things, positive underwriting results, improved financial performance, business growth and exceptional service to its insurer clients.
London Market Lifetime Achievement Award
